About Dorm Chef
The kitchen you have is enough.
Dorm Chef is for students cooking with a mini fridge, a microwave if the dorm allows one, and not a lot of time. Here is why we do it, and where we are going.
01 The problem
Why cooking in a dorm is hard
- No stove.
- One mini fridge.
- A microwave, if your dorm allows it.
- A budget with no room for waste.
- A few minutes between classes.
- And most recipes assume a full kitchen.
02 Why we started
Recipes for the room you actually live in
Most cooking advice starts with a stove, an oven and a drawer full of pans. A lot of students start with a mini fridge, a microwave they may or may not be allowed to use, and a few minutes between classes.
So we write recipes for that room. No stove. US cups and spoons. Ingredients from a regular grocery store. Every step explained, including the safety ones, like keeping your fridge at 40°F or colder.
Dorm Chef is a small, independent project started by Ali. Our first student testers start cooking from the Starter Kit this fall, and what they tell us shapes every update.
03 How it helps
Less guessing. More cooking.
Food pictures on this page are illustrations, not photos.
04 Our mission
Help every student cook real meals with the kitchen they already have.
05 Our vision
Every student leaves college able to cook for themselves, and enjoying it.
06 How we work
Four promises
Honest first
We label AI illustrations, say what has and has not been tested, and never promise what we cannot back up.
Safety is part of the recipe
Storage, allergen and food-handling notes come with every recipe, not tucked away in a footnote.
Your pace
Simple steps first, flavor ideas when you are ready. Burnt rice is a lesson, not a failure.
Built with students
Tester notes shape every update, and the community shows what really works in a small room.
